May 2022 Oxford, London

In May 2022 the Holocaust and War research group visited the UK focusing on the University of Oxford and the Imperial War Museum, London

Oxford University
In Oxford, we participated in a collaborative research seminar titled “New Trajectories in Holocaust Research,” and met with an impressive group of young researchers pursuing their PhDs at the University. Great thanks to Barnabas Balint and Charlie Knight for their excellent organization of this event. Following the seminar, we had an engaging tour of the University, held meetings with relevant researchers and programs, and attended a lecture by our friend, Dr. Yaacov Falkov. We explored fresh ideas and potential avenues for collaboration.

Imperial War Museum, London, Holocaust exhibition.

During our visit to London, we visited the new Holocaust Exhibition at the Imperial War Museum. The news of its opening was a major incentive to make the trip. We had the privilege of being guided through the exhibition by James Bulgin, the curator, and also had the opportunity to meet Claire Lawlor, who designed and oversees the educational program. We gained insight into the ethical, historical, and visual choices made in the exhibition, as well as the pedagogical and digital approaches employed to engage school students visiting it. After spending three hours in the exhibition, we dedicated an additional two hours to exploring the new WW2 exhibition.

In addition to these events and visits, we also managed to visit the Churchill War Rooms, have a networking event, organized by us at UCL, Visit the Wiener Library and meet with Deputy Director Dr. Christine Schmidt and Prof. Dan Stone of Royal Holloway University.

Churchill Archives at the Churchill College, Cambridge

Hosted at the Churchill Archives by Allen Packwood, the Archive’s director. Got an inside view of the working of the archive, visited the restoration department and saw a choice picking of unique documents. Followed this up with a discussion on research options for our faculty and cooperation ideas.
